Quick Answer

To remove line breaks, paste your text and choose 'Remove line breaks, keep paragraphs'. Every single line break inside a paragraph becomes a space, while blank lines between paragraphs stay, so text copied from a PDF turns back into normal paragraphs. You can also join everything into one paragraph, or replace each line break with a comma to turn a list into a single line. Words split with a hyphen at the end of a line are re-joined automatically.

What Does a Line Break Remover Do?

A line break remover (लाइन ब्रेक हटाने वाला टूल) cleans up text that has hard line breaks in the wrong places. You have probably seen it: you copy a paragraph from a PDF, a scanned document, an old email or a website, paste it into Word, WhatsApp or an online form, and every line ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence. Fixing that by hand — deleting each break and adding a space — is slow and error-prone, especially in long documents.

This free tool does it instantly. It can keep your real paragraphs while joining the broken lines inside them, merge everything into one paragraph, or replace line breaks with any text you choose, such as a comma. It also re-joins words that were split with a hyphen at the end of a line, collapses repeated spaces and trims messy line ends.

Key Features

  • Keep paragraphs — single breaks removed, blank lines kept.
  • One-paragraph mode for headlines, captions and form fields.
  • Replace mode — turn lines into a comma, semicolon or pipe-separated list.
  • Hyphen fix — "para-" + "graph" becomes "paragraph".
  • Collapse spaces and trim lines.
  • Live statistics — lines in, breaks removed, paragraphs and characters out.

How to Use It

  1. Paste your text into the top box.
  2. Choose what to do: keep paragraphs, remove all, or replace with your own text.
  3. Tick or untick the options.
  4. The cleaned text appears instantly in the result box.
  5. Press Copy Result or Download .txt.

Why PDFs Break Your Text

A PDF is designed to look the same everywhere, so it stores text as lines placed at exact positions on a page rather than as flowing paragraphs. When you select and copy text, your computer reconstructs it line by line and inserts a line break at the end of each visual line. Two-column layouts, footnotes and headers can make it even messier. Word processors and websites then treat those breaks as real, so the text no longer wraps naturally. Removing the unwanted breaks lets the text flow again.

The Three Modes Explained

1. Remove line breaks, keep paragraphs

This is the right choice for most PDF and email text. Lines inside a paragraph are joined with a space; a blank line — two line breaks in a row — is treated as a real paragraph break and kept.

Before:

Text copied from a PDF often arrives
with a line break at the end of every
line.

A blank line between paragraphs stays.

After:

Text copied from a PDF often arrives with a line break at the end of every line.

A blank line between paragraphs stays.

2. Remove all line breaks

Everything becomes a single paragraph. Use it for meta descriptions, social media bios, form fields that do not accept line breaks or when you need a clean block of text.

3. Replace line breaks with…

Each line break is replaced with the text you type. Typing , turns a vertical list into a comma-separated line — handy for email addresses, tags, product codes or names:

Asha
Rohit
Meera → Asha, Rohit, Meera

Tick Drop empty lines so blank rows do not leave double commas.

Fixing Words Split by Hyphens

Books, journals and justified PDFs often break long words at the end of a line with a hyphen: "informa-" on one line and "tion" on the next. After copying, you get "informa- tion". With the hyphen option on, the tool re-joins these into "information". To avoid joining things that should stay separate, it only does this when the next line starts with a lower-case letter. If your text contains genuine hyphenated words that happen to fall at a line end — such as "well-known" or "self-employed" — turn the option off, or check those words afterwards.

Tidying Spaces

Copied text often carries extra spaces: indentation at the start of lines, trailing spaces, or double spaces left behind after joining. Trim lines removes spaces at the start and end of each line before joining, and Collapse repeated spaces turns runs of spaces into a single space. Single spaces between words are never touched.

Everyday Uses

  • Students: paste quotes and notes from PDF textbooks into assignments.
  • Office work: clean text from reports before putting it in emails or presentations.
  • Content writers and SEO: tidy copied research, product descriptions and meta text.
  • Developers: turn a column of IDs into a comma-separated list for a query.
  • Social media: make captions and bios fit fields that don't allow line breaks.
  • Legal and government documents: fix text copied from notifications and circulars.

Line Break vs Paragraph Break

Line breakParagraph break
What it isMoves to the next lineA blank line separating paragraphs
In plain textOne newline characterTwo or more newlines
In WordShift + EnterEnter
In HTML<br><p>…</p>

The "keep paragraphs" mode relies on this difference: it removes single newlines and keeps double ones.

Windows, Mac and Linux Line Endings

Different systems mark the end of a line differently: Windows uses two characters (carriage return + line feed, CRLF), classic Mac OS used a carriage return (CR) and Linux, Android and modern macOS use a line feed (LF). Text moving between systems can end up with mixed endings, which some tools mishandle. This remover normalises all of them first, so the result is consistent whatever the source.

Tips for the Cleanest Result

  • Copy one column at a time from two-column PDFs, otherwise lines from both columns may interleave.
  • Remove headers, footers and page numbers that get copied with the text — our Find and Replace tool can delete repeated phrases in one go.
  • Check bullet lists: if each bullet should stay on its own line, use the keep-paragraphs mode after adding a blank line between bullets, or clean the paragraphs separately.
  • Proofread numbers and names after cleaning, especially if the source was a scan or an old document.
  • Keep a copy of the original until you are happy with the result.

Common Mistakes

  • Using "remove all" on multi-paragraph text and losing the paragraph structure.
  • Leaving the hyphen fix on for text full of genuine hyphenated words at line ends.
  • Forgetting empty lines in replace mode, producing ", ," in the list.
  • Copying scanned images — if a PDF is a scan, first extract the text with an OCR tool such as our Image to Text converter.

Example: Cleaning a Forwarded Email

Old email clients often wrapped messages at about 70 characters and added ">" quote marks to every line of a reply. When you copy such a message, each line arrives separately. Paste it here, use keep paragraphs with trim lines on, and the paragraphs reflow at once. If quote marks remain at the start of lines, remove them first with Find and Replace, then run the line break remover again for perfectly clean text you can reuse in a document or a new message.

Private by Design

All processing happens in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is not uploaded, logged or stored, which matters when you are cleaning confidential reports, contracts or personal notes. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.

Quick Glossary

  • Hard line break: a newline typed or inserted into the text.
  • Soft wrap: text wrapping automatically at the edge of the box, with no newline.
  • CRLF / LF: Windows and Unix line-ending characters.
  • Delimiter: the separator used in replace mode, such as a comma.
  • Reflow: letting text wrap naturally again after unwanted line breaks are removed.
  • OCR: optical character recognition — turning an image of text into editable text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does text copied from a PDF have line breaks?

A PDF stores text as positioned lines on a page, not as flowing paragraphs. When you copy it, each visual line usually ends with a hard line break, so the text looks broken when pasted into an email, Word or a website.

How do I remove line breaks but keep paragraphs?

Choose 'Remove line breaks, keep paragraphs'. Single line breaks inside a paragraph become spaces, while blank lines (two or more line breaks) are kept as paragraph breaks.

How do I join all lines into one paragraph?

Choose 'Remove all line breaks'. Every line break, including blank lines, is replaced with a single space.

How do I turn a list into a comma-separated line?

Choose 'Replace line breaks with…' and type ', ' in the box. A list of names on separate lines becomes 'name1, name2, name3'. Tick 'Drop empty lines' to skip blanks.

What does the hyphen option do?

When a word was split across two lines with a hyphen — like 'para-' at the end of one line and 'graph' at the start of the next — it re-joins it as 'paragraph'. It only does this when the next line starts with a lower-case letter, to avoid joining names. Turn it off if your text has real hyphenated words at line ends, such as 'well-known'.

Will it remove spaces inside my text?

Only repeated spaces are collapsed into one, if that option is ticked. Single spaces between words are never removed.

Does it work with Hindi or other languages?

Yes. It works with any language and script, including Hindi, because it only changes line breaks and spaces.

What is the difference between a line break and a paragraph break?

A line break moves text to the next line. A paragraph break is usually a blank line — two line breaks in a row — that separates paragraphs.

Does it handle Windows and Mac line endings?

Yes. Windows uses CR+LF, older Macs used CR and Linux/macOS use LF. All are recognised and handled the same way.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit — it handles long documents in your browser. Very large texts (hundreds of pages) may take a moment to process.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Is the tool free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up.
