What is an Online PDF Editor?

An online PDF editor (PDF एडिटर) lets you make changes to a PDF without expensive desktop software. With this free editor you can add text in any language, place a signature or stamp image, draw ticks and arrows, highlight important lines and white-out parts you want to cover — then save a new PDF. It is ideal for filling in forms, signing documents, marking up drafts and correcting small details.

Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is opened with pdf.js, your additions are drawn on top of each page, and the new PDF is created on your device with pdf-lib. Nothing is uploaded and no watermark is added.

How to Use It

1. Open a PDF (up to 50 pages and 50 MB).
2. Pick a tool from the toolbar:
   • Text: type in the box, set size and colour, then click on the page.
   • Draw: drag on the page to draw.
   • White-out / Highlight: drag a box over the area.
   • Image / signature: choose an image, set the width, click to place.
   • Remove item: click an item you added to delete it.
3. Press Undo for the last change at any time.
4. Press Save edited PDF.

How It Works

A PDF page is not like a Word document — its text is fixed in place and not designed to be edited. So this editor works the way most quick PDF editors do: it adds a transparent layer on top of each page. Your text, drawings, highlights, white-out boxes and images live on that layer. When you save, each edited page's layer is drawn at twice the screen resolution, turned into a PNG image and placed exactly over the page with pdf-lib, the open-source PDF library. Pages that are rotated inside the PDF are handled so your edits land in the right place. The original page content stays untouched underneath.

Filling In Forms

Many government, bank and school forms are distributed as flat PDFs without fillable fields. To fill one:

1. Choose Text, set size 10–12 pt and a dark blue or black colour.
2. Type your first answer and click at the start of the blank field.
3. Repeat for each field; use Draw for tick marks in boxes.
4. Add your signature with Image / signature.
5. Save, then check the PDF before printing or submitting.

If a form has real fillable fields, your answers sit on top of them visually rather than inside them — the result looks correct when viewed or printed.

Signing a PDF

Create your signature as a transparent PNG with our Signature Maker, then choose Image / signature, upload it, set a width of about 120–160 points for a typical signature line and click to place it. A transparent background means no white box over the document's lines. You can add the same signature on several pages. For documents that legally require a certified digital signature, use a Digital Signature Certificate or Aadhaar eSign through an authorised provider.

White-out Is Not Redaction

White-out covers content with a white box so it can't be seen on screen or in print. But the original text is still inside the file underneath, and someone could copy it or remove the overlay. Never use white-out to hide passwords, account numbers, Aadhaar numbers or other confidential details in documents you share. For that, use dedicated redaction software that permanently removes the content, or retype the document without the sensitive parts.

Hindi and Other Languages

Because added text is drawn as part of an image layer, the editor isn't limited by the fonts embedded in the PDF. You can type in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Urdu or any language your device supports, and it will appear exactly as you see it. The trade-off is that added text is not searchable or selectable in the saved PDF.

Marking Up Drafts

• Highlight key sentences in a report or contract.
• Draw circles, arrows and underlines to point out issues.
• Add text notes in red for comments and corrections.
• White-out and retype to show a proposed change.

It is a quick way to review a document and send it back without printing and scanning.

Worked Example: A Rental Agreement

Arjun receives a rental agreement as a PDF and needs to add his details, sign every page and return it. He opens it here, chooses Text at 11 pt in dark blue, and clicks to place his name, address and the start date in the blank spaces. One date was pre-filled incorrectly, so he uses White-out over it and types the correct date on top — then adds a small Highlight to draw the landlord's attention to the change. He uploads his transparent PNG signature with Image / signature, sets the width to 140 pt and clicks once at the bottom of each page. After saving, he opens the new PDF to check every page before emailing it back. No printing, scanning or app installation was needed.

Placing Items Precisely

• Zoom in with your browser (Ctrl/⌘ and +) for small form fields; the pages stay sharp.
• Text is placed from its top-left corner at the point you click — click just inside the start of a blank line.
• Images are centred on the point you click.
• Made a mistake? Press Undo, or choose Remove item and click the item.
• On phones, turn the screen sideways for larger pages and use a stylus for drawing.

File Size After Saving

Each edited page gets one overlay image, so the saved PDF is a little larger than the original — usually by a few hundred kilobytes per edited page, depending on how much you added. Pages you did not touch are not changed at all. If the result is too large for an email or upload limit, run it through our Compress PDF tool.

Privacy

Your PDF never leaves your device. It is read with pdf.js, edited in the page and saved with pdf-lib, all inside your browser. That makes the editor suitable for agreements, applications, bank forms and other personal documents. The libraries are downloaded from public CDNs; your file is not.

Troubleshooting

• "Password-protected" or "encrypted": unlock the PDF first with our Unlock PDF tool, using the password you have.
• Only 50 pages appear: longer PDFs are cut at 50 pages — split the document, edit the part you need and merge it back with Merge PDF.
• Nothing happens when I click: check which tool is selected; for Image, choose a file first.
• The signature has a white box: use a transparent PNG instead of a JPG.

Common Mistakes

• Using white-out to hide secrets — it is not secure redaction.
• Placing text before choosing the size — set size and colour first.
• A JPG signature with a white box — use a transparent PNG so the lines underneath stay visible.
• Editing a 200-page document — split it first and edit only the pages you need.
• Not checking the saved file before sending it — open it once and scroll through every edited page.
