Quick Answer

Drop a PDF that contains a table — a bank statement, report or invoice — and the tool reads the text positions, works out the columns and shows a preview of the rows. Keep 'Merge wrapped lines' on so long descriptions stay in one cell, then download the CSV and open it in Excel or Google Sheets. It works on text-based PDFs; scanned PDFs are pictures without text, so they can't be split into columns here.

Why Extract Tables from PDF?

Bank statements, credit-card bills, GST and sales reports, price lists, mark sheets and invoices usually arrive as PDFs. The numbers you need are right there — but you can't sort them, total them, filter them or reconcile them in a PDF viewer, and copying a table from a PDF usually pastes everything into one jumbled column. A CSV file brings the table into Excel, Google Sheets or accounting software, where you can actually work with it.

This PDF to CSV converter (PDF से CSV) reads the position of every piece of text on each page, rebuilds the rows and detects the columns automatically. It runs entirely in your browser, which is exactly what you want for financial documents: your statement never leaves your computer.

How to Use It

  1. Choose the pages: all pages, or only the first page for a quick test.
  2. Choose the delimiter (comma for most uses, semicolon for European Excel, tab for TSV) and keep Add BOM on for Excel.
  3. Keep "Merge wrapped lines" on if descriptions or names run onto a second line.
  4. Drop the PDF. The first 40 rows appear in a preview table with a count of rows and columns.
  5. Download or copy the CSV, then open it in Excel or Google Sheets.

How the Table Is Rebuilt

Digital PDFs don't actually contain "tables" — just pieces of text placed at exact coordinates, plus lines drawn for borders. To recover the table, the converter works in three steps:

  1. Lines: text pieces sitting on the same baseline are grouped into a line, top to bottom.
  2. Cells: within each line, pieces separated by normal word spacing are joined into one cell; a wider gap starts a new cell.
  3. Columns: across all lines on the page that have several cells, the tool finds vertical strips of white space that no text crosses. Those strips are the column boundaries. Each cell is then placed in the column its centre falls into, so left-aligned text and right-aligned numbers both line up correctly.

Columns are worked out separately for every page, because statements and reports sometimes change layout between the first page (with a header block) and later pages.

Bank Statements

Bank and credit-card statements are the most common reason people need PDF to CSV — for budgeting, tax filing, loan applications or reconciling accounts. Statements downloaded from net banking are usually text-based PDFs, so they convert well: date, description or narration, cheque or reference number, withdrawal, deposit and balance land in separate columns. Long narrations that wrap onto a second line are merged back into their transaction when "Merge wrapped lines" is on. The account summary, address block and page headers come through as extra rows, which you can delete in seconds in a spreadsheet.

If your statement is password-protected (many banks protect PDFs with your date of birth or customer ID), remove the password first with Unlock PDF — you need to know it.

Why Not Just Copy and Paste?

Selecting a table in a PDF viewer and pasting it into Excel usually puts each row into a single cell, or scrambles the reading order across columns. Fixing that by hand takes far longer than the conversion. Because this tool uses the exact position of every word, it keeps rows and columns together, even across many pages of a long report.

Merging Wrapped Lines

In many tables, a long entry — a transaction narration, a product name, an address — wraps onto a second or third line. Without special handling, each wrapped line becomes its own row with most cells empty, breaking sorting and totals. With Merge wrapped lines on, a line whose first column is empty and which fills only a few columns is treated as a continuation and its text is appended to the matching cells of the row above. Turn the option off for tables where the first column is genuinely blank on some rows, such as grouped reports.

Worked Example

You download a three-month savings account statement as statement.pdf (6 pages) and want to total your UPI spending. Unlock it if needed, keep "All pages", "Merge wrapped lines" and "Add BOM" on, and drop the file. The preview shows rows like 01-08-2026 | UPI/P2M/Grocery Store/… | 1,250.00 | | 48,320.50, with the status line reporting the number of rows and columns. Download the CSV, open it in Excel, apply a filter on the narration column for "UPI", and sum the withdrawal column — done in minutes instead of retyping the statement.

Opening the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets

  • Excel: double-click the CSV. With the BOM on, Hindi names and the ₹ sign display correctly. If everything appears in one column, your Excel expects semicolons — choose the semicolon delimiter and download again.
  • Google Sheets: File → Import → Upload, then choose "Detect automatically" for the separator.
  • Amounts with commas: values like 1,250.00 are kept exactly as printed and quoted in the CSV. Excel normally recognises them as numbers; if not, use Find & Replace to remove the commas.
  • Need a real .xlsx? Run the CSV through CSV to Excel.

Common Uses

  • Personal finance: budgeting and expense tracking from bank and card statements.
  • Accounting and GST: pull figures from PDF reports, ledgers and invoices for reconciliation.
  • Business reports: sales, stock and price lists received as PDFs.
  • Education: mark lists and result sheets into spreadsheets for analysis.
  • Research: data tables from government and institutional PDF reports.
  • Data entry: avoid retyping tables by hand.

What Works Best — and the Limits

  • Best: text-based PDFs with a regular grid — statements, ledgers, price lists, system-generated reports.
  • Usually fine: tables with a header block or summary above them; those lines become extra rows.
  • Needs tidying: merged header cells, nested tables, multi-column magazine layouts and tables where columns sit very close together.
  • Not possible: scanned PDFs or photos of tables. They contain pictures, not text, so there is nothing to split into columns. OCR PDF can read their words as plain text, and you can rebuild the table from that.

Private by Design

Bank statements and invoices are among the most sensitive files you have — account numbers, balances, transactions, addresses. Many online PDF converters upload them to a server. This tool reads the PDF with Mozilla's open-source pdf.js inside your browser tab and builds the CSV on your device. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and the data disappears when you close the page.

Troubleshooting

  • "No text found": the PDF is scanned. See the limits above.
  • "Password-protected": unlock it first with the password.
  • Two columns merged into one: the columns are very close or overlap on some lines; split them in Excel with Data → Text to Columns.
  • One column split into two: a long value left a gap; join the cells in your spreadsheet, or check whether a stray line on that page caused it.
  • Extra half-empty rows: turn "Merge wrapped lines" on; if it's already on, the table's first column is blank on those rows — delete them in the spreadsheet.
  • Excel shows garbled Hindi: keep "Add BOM" ticked and download again.

Tips

  • Test with the first page to check the column layout before converting a long PDF.
  • Sort and filter in a spreadsheet to remove repeated page headers quickly.
  • Need the whole text, not a table? Use PDF to Text or PDF to Word.
  • Very long CSV? Break it into parts with Split CSV.

Works on Any Device

The converter runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone. The preview table scrolls sideways on small screens so you can check wide statements on a phone before downloading.

Quick Glossary

  • Text-based PDF: a PDF created by software, containing real, selectable text.
  • Scanned PDF: a PDF made of page images, with no text layer.
  • Delimiter: the character that separates columns in a CSV file.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a PDF table to CSV?

Drop the PDF into the box. The table is detected and previewed; press Download CSV to save it, then open it in Excel or Google Sheets.

Does it work with bank statements?

Yes. Most bank and credit-card statements downloaded as PDF are text-based, so dates, descriptions, debits, credits and balances come out in columns. Keep 'Merge wrapped lines' on for long descriptions.

How are the columns detected?

The tool looks for vertical strips of white space that run through every multi-column line on a page, and uses them as column boundaries. Each piece of text goes into the column its centre falls in.

What does 'Merge wrapped lines' do?

When a description continues on a second line with the first column empty, that text is added to the row above instead of creating a new, mostly empty row.

Why do I get 'No text found'?

The PDF is scanned — each page is a picture with no text inside. This tool needs real text to find columns. Use OCR PDF to read the words as plain text; you can then rebuild the table in a spreadsheet.

Will the CSV open correctly in Excel?

Yes. Keep 'Add BOM' ticked so Excel shows Hindi and the ₹ sign correctly. Choose semicolon if your Excel expects it.

Does it handle multiple pages?

Yes. All pages (up to 500) are read and their rows are added in order; columns are detected separately for each page.

What about headers and totals?

They are included as rows, exactly as in the PDF. Delete repeated headers or summary lines in your spreadsheet if you don't need them.

Can it handle complex tables with merged cells?

Simple grid tables work best. Merged cells, nested tables or text in several columns of prose may need a little tidying afterwards.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, which matters for financial documents.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Unlock the PDF first with the password using Unlock PDF, then convert.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no page limits beyond 500 pages.
