Quick Answer
Online application forms reject photos that are the wrong size. Choose your exam or form, upload the photo, crop it, and download a JPG with the exact pixels and file size — for example a bank-exam photo of 200 × 230 pixels between 20 and 50 KB, or a signature of 140 × 60 pixels between 10 and 20 KB. All values can be edited. Requirements change from one notification to the next, so always check the official notice before uploading.
What is an Exam Form Photo Resizer?
An exam form photo resizer (परीक्षा फॉर्म फोटो रिसाइज़र) prepares your photograph, signature, thumb impression and handwritten declaration in exactly the size an online application asks for. Government recruitment and entrance exam portals — SSC, UPSC, IBPS, SBI, railway boards, NTA exams like NEET, JEE and CUET, and services like PAN — set strict rules for pixels, file size in KB and format. A photo straight from your phone is usually several megabytes and is rejected immediately.
This free tool crops and resizes your image to the exact dimensions, finds the best JPG quality inside the KB range, writes the DPI and shows you clearly whether the file meets the limits — all in your browser, without uploading your documents anywhere.
Key Features
- Presets for commonly requested sizes — all editable.
- Exact pixel dimensions with a crop you control.
- KB range — highest quality under the maximum, padded up to the minimum if needed.
- DPI written into the JPG.
- Works for photos, signatures, thumbs and declarations.
- Clear status — within range or not.
How to Use It
- Open your notification and find the image requirements.
- Choose a preset, then check and edit the width, height, minimum KB, maximum KB and DPI to match the notice exactly.
- Upload your photo, signature, thumb or declaration image.
- Crop with zoom and the left/right and up/down sliders.
- Check the dimensions, file size and status, then download.
Commonly Requested Sizes
These are values commonly seen in recent notifications and guides. They change between exams and years — always follow your official notification.
| Form | Item | Pixels (common) | File size |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBPS / SBI bank exams | Photograph | 200 × 230 | 20–50 KB |
| IBPS / SBI bank exams | Signature | 140 × 60 | 10–20 KB |
| IBPS / SBI bank exams | Left thumb impression | 240 × 240 | 20–50 KB |
| IBPS / SBI bank exams | Handwritten declaration | 800 × 400 | 50–100 KB |
| SSC | Photograph | 3.5 × 4.5 cm proportion | 20–50 KB |
| SSC | Signature | about 6 × 2 cm | 10–20 KB |
| UPSC | Photograph / signature | as per notice | 20–200 KB / 20–100 KB |
| NTA (NEET, JEE, CUET) | Photograph / signature | passport size | 10–200 KB / 4–30 KB |
| PAN (online) | Photo / signature | 213 × 213 / about 400 × 200 at 300 dpi | under 30 KB |
Several recruitment bodies, including SSC and UPSC, now also capture a live photograph through your webcam or phone during the application, which must match your uploaded photo. Follow the on-screen instructions for that step.
How the KB Range Is Met
- The image is cropped to the exact width and height you set.
- It is saved as a JPG at high quality. If that is already under the maximum, it is kept.
- If not, the tool searches for the highest quality that fits under the maximum, without shrinking the pixels.
- If the result is below the minimum, harmless "comment" data is added inside the JPG to reach the minimum. The picture looks exactly the same — only the file size changes.
- The DPI you chose is written into the file header.
If even the lowest quality is over the maximum, the status shows a warning: reduce the pixel size or check the limits you entered.
Getting a Photo That Is Accepted
- Recent colour photo, taken within the last few months.
- Plain, light background — white or light grey works best.
- Face centred and clearly visible, from the top of the head to the chin, filling most of the frame.
- Even light with no harsh shadows on the face.
- Eyes open, neutral expression, no cap or sunglasses (religious headwear is usually allowed if the face is visible).
- No filters or heavy editing.

Signature, Thumb Impression and Declaration
- Signature: sign in black ink on plain white paper, in your usual running hand — many forms reject signatures in capital letters. Crop tightly around it before resizing. Our Signature Maker can also create one.
- Left thumb impression: use blue or black ink on white paper, press evenly and avoid smudges.
- Handwritten declaration: write the exact text given in the notification, in English, with a black pen, in your own handwriting — not typed or in capitals.
Scan or photograph each item in good light, flat and straight, then crop and resize it here with the matching preset.
Worked Example: A Bank Exam Application
Rahul is applying for a bank clerk exam. The notification asks for four images. He prepares them one by one:
- Photograph: he selects the bank-exam photograph preset (200 × 230 px, 20–50 KB), uploads a recent photo taken against a white wall, zooms in until his face fills most of the frame and downloads it. The status shows about 30 KB — within range.
- Signature: he signs on white paper with a black pen, photographs it, chooses the signature preset (140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB) and crops tightly.
- Left thumb impression: he presses his thumb on a blue ink pad, then on white paper, and uses the 240 × 240 px preset.
- Declaration: he writes the declaration text from the notification by hand, photographs the page flat in daylight and uses the 800 × 400 px preset.
He names the files clearly — photo.jpg, signature.jpg, thumb.jpg and declaration.jpg — and keeps copies in a folder for later stages of the recruitment process. Before uploading, he compares each value once more with the notification, because one exam's numbers can differ from another's.
Pixels, Centimetres and DPI
Some notices give sizes in centimetres instead of pixels. Pixels = centimetres ÷ 2.54 × DPI. A 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo at 200 dpi is about 276 × 354 pixels; at 300 dpi it is 413 × 531 pixels. If a notice gives both, use the pixel size. If it gives only centimetres and KB, choose a proportion that matches the centimetres (the SSC preset uses 350 × 450) and make sure the KB range is met.
Common Mistakes
- Using an old preset without checking the current notification.
- Swapping width and height — width comes first.
- Uploading a PNG when the form wants JPG — this tool always outputs JPG.
- Cropping off the top of the head or leaving too much background.
- Using a selfie with a cluttered background.
- Uploading the wrong file into the photo or signature field — name your files clearly.
Privacy
Your photo, signature and thumb impression are sensitive personal data. This tool processes them only inside your browser; nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. Avoid "free resize" services that ask you to upload ID documents to unknown servers.
Quick Glossary
- KB: kilobyte — file size; 1 KB is 1,024 bytes.
- Pixels: the dots that make up a digital image (width × height).
- DPI: dots per inch — the print resolution stored in the file.
- JPG / JPEG: the standard photo format required by most portals.
- Live photo: a picture captured by the portal through your camera during the application.
Why Use This Resizer?
It handles the three things portals check — pixels, KB and format — in one step, with presets for popular exams that you can adjust to any notification, and a clear pass/fail status before you upload. It is free, private and works on phones. For a general KB target without exact pixels, try our Resize Image in KB tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my form reject my photo?
Most portals check three things: format (usually JPG), file size in KB, and sometimes pixel dimensions. A photo straight from a phone is often several MB and thousands of pixels wide, so it fails. This tool produces a JPG that matches the numbers you enter.
What photo size is needed for SSC?
SSC notifications have commonly asked for a JPG photograph of 20–50 KB and a signature of 10–20 KB, and SSC now also captures a live photo during the application. Check the current notification for the exact requirements.
What is the photo and signature size for IBPS and SBI exams?
Bank exam notifications commonly ask for a photograph of 200 × 230 pixels (20–50 KB), a signature of 140 × 60 pixels (10–20 KB), a left thumb impression of 240 × 240 pixels (20–50 KB) and a handwritten declaration of 800 × 400 pixels (50–100 KB). Confirm in your notification.
What is the UPSC photo size?
Recent UPSC guidance has asked for a JPG photograph of 20–200 KB and a signature of 20–100 KB, with the face covering about three-quarters of the photo, along with a live photograph. Check the latest notice.
What is the PAN card photo size?
For online PAN applications, the commonly cited requirement is 213 × 213 pixels at 300 dpi and under 30 KB for the photo, and around 400 × 200 pixels under 30 KB for the signature. Check the NSDL (Protean) or UTIITSL portal before applying.
What if my photo is smaller than the minimum KB?
The tool first uses the highest quality. If the file is still below the minimum, it adds harmless padding data inside the JPG so it meets the minimum — the picture itself does not change.
What if it is still over the maximum?
If even the lowest quality is too big, reduce the dimensions or check that you entered the right maximum. Very detailed or noisy photos need more KB.
What is DPI and does it matter?
DPI is stored in the file and tells printers how large to print it. A few forms check it; most only check pixels and KB. The tool writes the DPI you choose into the JPG.
How should my photo look?
Usually a recent colour photo with a plain light background, face clearly visible from the top of the head to the chin, eyes open, no cap or dark glasses (unless allowed for religious reasons), and no filters.
How should I scan my signature?
Sign in black ink on plain white paper, take a well-lit photo or scan, then crop tightly. Most forms reject signatures written in capital letters. You can also create one with our Signature Maker.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping, resizing and compression all happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is the exam photo resizer free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no watermark.
