Quick Answer
To find the number of days between two dates, enter a start date and an end date. The calculator counts the calendar days between them (add one if you want to include the end date), and also shows the gap as years, months and days, weeks plus days and working days. For example, 17 October 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 75 days, or 53 working days from Monday to Friday.
What is a Date Difference Calculator?
A Date Difference Calculator (तारीख अंतर कैलकुलेटर) tells you exactly how much time lies between two dates — in days, weeks, months and years — and how many of those days are working days. It also works the other way round: give it a date and a period, and it tells you the date that many days, weeks, months or years before or after. People use it for deadlines, notice periods, project plans, loan and rent periods, travel, pregnancy due dates, countdowns and much more.
Counting on a calendar is slow and error-prone because months have different lengths, leap years add a day, and it is easy to be one day out depending on whether you count the first and last day. This free calculator handles all of that, lets you decide whether the end date is included, and lets you choose whether Saturday is a working day — important in India, where many offices, banks and schools work some or all Saturdays.
Key Features
- Days between dates as years, months and days, plus total days.
- Weeks plus days, approximate months and years, hours, minutes and seconds.
- Working days and weekend days, with Saturday as a holiday or a working day.
- Include end date option for leave and event counts.
- Add or subtract years, months, weeks and days from any date.
- Working-days-only mode for counting forward or backward in business days.
- Weekday names for both dates and the result.
- Shareable link that keeps your dates and options.
How to Use It — Step by Step
To count days between two dates:
- Stay on “Days between dates”.
- Pick the start date and the end date (the end date starts as 31 December of this year).
- Tick Include the end date if both the first and last days should count.
- Untick Saturday is a holiday if Saturday is a working day for you.
- Read the results: years-months-days, total days, weeks, working days and weekend days.
To add or subtract time:
- Switch to “Add / subtract days”.
- Pick the start date and choose Add or Subtract.
- Enter years, months, weeks and/or days.
- Tick working days only if weekends should be skipped.
- Read the resulting date with its weekday.
Worked Examples
- 17 October 2026 → 31 December 2026: 75 days, or 2 months and 14 days. With Saturday and Sunday off there are 53 working days and 22 weekend days.
- Whole of 2026 (1 January to 31 December, end date included): 365 days, 261 working days Monday–Friday, or 313 with only Sundays off — before public holidays.
- 90 days after 17 October 2026: Friday, 15 January 2027.
- 10 working days after Friday 16 October 2026: Friday, 30 October 2026.
- 15 August 1947 → 17 October 2026: 28,918 days.
Include or Exclude the End Date?
This is the most common source of “off by one” errors. Measuring a duration (how long from one moment to another) normally excludes the end date: from Monday to Friday is 4 days. Counting days of an event normally includes both ends: a leave from Monday to Friday is 5 days. Hotel stays count nights, which equals the duration without the end date. Contracts and legal deadlines often have their own rules about whether the first or last day counts — check the wording.
Working Days, Weekends and Holidays
The calculator counts working days by removing weekends from the range. You choose whether the weekend is Saturday and Sunday or just Sunday. It does not remove public holidays automatically, because these vary by country, state, bank and company — for example, Indian bank holidays differ from state to state. Look up the holidays that fall within your range and subtract them from the working-day count.
| Use | Typical working week |
|---|---|
| Most corporate offices and IT companies | Monday–Friday |
| Many factories, shops and some government offices | Monday–Saturday |
| Indian banks | Monday–Friday plus some Saturdays (second and fourth Saturdays are closed) |
| Courier and e-commerce delivery estimates | Often Monday–Saturday |
Adding Months and Years Correctly
Adding days is simple, but adding months needs a rule because months differ in length. This calculator first moves the month and year and keeps the same day number when possible. If that day does not exist in the target month, it uses the last day of that month: 31 January + 1 month = 28 February (or 29 February in a leap year), and 31 March − 1 month = 28 or 29 February. Weeks and days are then added. Leap years are handled automatically — a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400.
Days in Each Month
| Month | Days | Month | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 31 | July | 31 |
| February | 28 (29 in leap years) | August | 31 |
| March | 31 | September | 30 |
| April | 30 | October | 31 |
| May | 31 | November | 30 |
| June | 30 | December | 31 |
A common year has 365 days (52 weeks and 1 day) and a leap year 366 days (52 weeks and 2 days). That is why a date falls one weekday later each year — or two weekdays later after 29 February. The average Gregorian month is 30.44 days and the average year 365.2425 days; the calculator uses these averages only for the “approximate” months and years boxes, never for the exact years-months-days result.
Practical Uses
- Notice periods — the last working day after 30, 60 or 90 days.
- Project planning — working days available before a deadline.
- Leave applications — the number of days including both ends.
- Loans, rent and FDs — exact days for interest calculations.
- Delivery estimates — business days to dispatch and deliver.
- Exams and events — countdowns to an important date.
- Pregnancy — weeks from a date (always confirm due dates with a doctor).
- Visas and travel — length of stay and validity periods.
- Warranties and returns — whether you are still within 7, 10 or 30 days.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting to include the end date when counting leave or event days.
- Assuming 30 days per month — use calendar months or exact days.
- Ignoring public holidays in working-day counts.
- Mixing date formats — 04/05 is 4 May in India but April 5 in the US; the date picker avoids this.
- Counting nights instead of days for hotel stays, or vice versa.
Tips and Troubleshooting
- “(dates swapped)” appears — the end date was before the start date; the result is still correct.
- Working days look high — tick “Saturday is a holiday” for a five-day week.
- Result is one day different from another tool — check whether the end date is included.
- Sharing — copy the page link; it keeps your dates and options.

Accuracy and Privacy
All date arithmetic is done in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on whole calendar dates, so daylight-saving clock changes in your device's time zone can never add or remove an hour and push a result to the wrong day. Nothing you enter is uploaded — the dates live only in your browser and, if you choose to share, in the page link.
Why Use This Date Calculator?
It covers both questions people actually ask — “how long between these dates?” and “what date is it after this period?” — with working-day options that suit Indian and international work weeks. It is accurate, free, private and works on any device.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does this exactly, including leap years. By default the start date is counted and the end date is not, which is the standard way of measuring a duration.
Should I include the end date?
Include it when counting days of an event that covers both dates — for example a leave from Monday to Friday is 5 days, not 4. Exclude it when measuring time elapsed, such as the number of days until a deadline.
How are working days calculated?
The calculator counts every day in the range and removes Sundays, plus Saturdays if “Saturday is a holiday” is ticked. Public holidays are not removed automatically because they differ by country, state and organisation — subtract them yourself.
How many working days are there in a year?
With a Monday–Friday week, 2026 has 261 working days before public holidays. With a six-day week (only Sundays off) it has 313.
How do I add days to a date?
Switch to “Add / subtract days”, choose the start date, select Add and enter the days, weeks, months or years. For example, 90 days after 17 October 2026 is Friday, 15 January 2027.
What happens when I add a month to 31 January?
February does not have 31 days, so the result is clamped to the last day of February — 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year. This is the usual convention in date arithmetic.
Can I add only working days?
Yes. Tick “Count days as working days only” and the calculator skips Saturdays and Sundays when counting forward or backward. This is useful for delivery estimates and notice periods.
Why might months in the result look different from total days ÷ 30?
Months have different lengths. The years-months-days result uses the calendar method, while “Months (approx.)” divides total days by the average month length of 30.44 days.
Does daylight saving time affect the result?
No. All calculations use UTC dates, so clock changes cannot add or remove an hour and shift a result by a day.
Can the end date be earlier than the start date?
Yes. The calculator swaps the dates automatically and shows a note, so you always get a positive difference.
How many days until my birthday or an exam?
Set today as the start date and the event as the end date. For your exact age, use our Age Calculator instead.
