Quick Answer
To convert a time between time zones, choose the date, the time and the “from” zone, then add the zones you want to compare. The converter applies each zone's UTC offset and daylight-saving rules for that date. For example, 9:00 PM IST on 20 October 2026 is 11:30 AM in New York (EDT), 4:30 PM in London (BST) and 2:30 AM the next day in Sydney (AEDT).
What is a Time Zone Converter?
A Time Zone Converter (टाइम ज़ोन कन्वर्टर) tells you what time it is — or will be — in one place when it is a given time somewhere else. If you work with clients in the US, have family in the UK or Dubai, attend webinars hosted in Singapore, or watch live sports and launches happening on the other side of the world, you constantly need to translate times. Doing it in your head is risky because offsets are not always whole hours and many countries move their clocks twice a year for daylight saving time.
This free converter uses your browser's built-in time-zone database — the same IANA data used by operating systems and phones — so daylight-saving rules are applied automatically for the exact date you pick. Choose a date, time and source zone, add up to 12 cities, and see each local time, date, abbreviation and UTC offset side by side. A colour-coded 24-hour meeting planner then shows which hours fall inside everyone's working day.
Key Features
- 400+ time zones, with popular ones such as India, New York, London, Dubai and Sydney listed first.
- Daylight saving handled automatically for the selected date.
- Compare up to 12 zones with local time, date, abbreviation, UTC offset and hour difference.
- Meeting planner — every hour of the day across all zones, coloured by working hours.
- Your zone detected automatically, with one-tap “Now” and “My time zone”.
- Skipped-time warning when a chosen time does not exist because clocks moved forward.
- Shareable link and Copy Times for messages and invites.
How to Use It — Step by Step
- Pick the date and time you want to convert, or press Now.
- Select the “From” time zone — the zone that time belongs to. Your own zone is chosen automatically.
- Add cities to compare from the list and press Add. Remove any card with ×.
- Read the cards: each shows the local time, date, abbreviation, offset and the difference from the source.
- Scroll the meeting planner to find a row that is green (or at least amber) in every column.
- Share or copy the result so everyone sees the same times.
Worked Example
A webinar is scheduled for 9:00 PM IST on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. IST is UTC+05:30, so the event is at 15:30 UTC. On that date:
| City | Local time | Offset |
|---|---|---|
| New Delhi / Mumbai | Tue 9:00 PM (IST) | UTC+05:30 |
| New York | Tue 11:30 AM (EDT) | UTC−04:00 |
| Los Angeles | Tue 8:30 AM (PDT) | UTC−07:00 |
| London | Tue 4:30 PM (BST) | UTC+01:00 |
| Dubai | Tue 7:30 PM | UTC+04:00 |
| Singapore | Tue 11:30 PM | UTC+08:00 |
| Sydney | Wed 2:30 AM (AEDT) | UTC+11:00 |
Three weeks later, on 10 November 2026, the same 9:00 PM IST would be 10:30 AM in New York and 3:30 PM in London, because both have left daylight saving time by then. The converter handles this automatically — just change the date.
Daylight Saving Time Explained
Many countries move their clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn to make better use of daylight. India does not, so the gap between India and those countries changes twice a year:
- United States and Canada: clocks go forward on the second Sunday in March and back on the first Sunday in November.
- United Kingdom and European Union: forward on the last Sunday in March, back on the last Sunday in October.
- Australia (south-east): forward on the first Sunday in October, back on the first Sunday in April — the opposite season from the northern hemisphere.
- India, UAE, Singapore, China, Japan: no daylight saving.
Because the US and Europe change on different dates, there are a few weeks each spring and autumn when the US–UK gap is 4 hours instead of the usual 5. These “shoulder weeks” are when many international meetings go wrong — always check the date, not just the usual difference.
India (IST) Compared with Major Cities
| City | Summer difference from IST | Winter difference from IST |
|---|---|---|
| New York | IST − 9h 30m | IST − 10h 30m |
| Chicago | IST − 10h 30m | IST − 11h 30m |
| Los Angeles | IST − 12h 30m | IST − 13h 30m |
| London | IST − 4h 30m | IST − 5h 30m |
| Berlin / Paris | IST − 3h 30m | IST − 4h 30m |
| Dubai | IST − 1h 30m all year | |
| Singapore | IST + 2h 30m all year | |
| Tokyo | IST + 3h 30m all year | |
| Sydney | IST + 4h 30m (April–October) | IST + 5h 30m (October–April) |
“Summer” here means the northern-hemisphere summer. Sydney's daylight saving runs roughly October to April, so it is UTC+10 (IST + 4h 30m) from April to October and UTC+11 (IST + 5h 30m) from October to April.
How the Converter Works
When you enter a time, the converter first finds the exact moment in UTC that matches that wall-clock time in the source zone, using the zone's offset on that specific date (it checks twice so that a daylight-saving change on that day is handled correctly). It then asks the browser to display that same moment in every other zone. Because the browser's Intl database contains the historical and future rules for each IANA zone, the results reflect daylight saving, half-hour offsets and rule changes without any manual table. Nothing is sent to a server.
Planning Meetings Across Time Zones
- Use the planner colours: green is 9 am–6 pm, amber is 7–9 am or 6–10 pm, red is night.
- Rotate inconvenient slots if a team meets regularly, so the same people are not always up late.
- Send invites in calendar apps, which convert times for each attendee automatically.
- State the time zone clearly in written messages, for example “3 PM London (BST) / 7:30 PM IST”.
- Double-check around clock changes in March, April, October and November.
Who Uses a Time Zone Converter?
- Remote workers and freelancers with overseas clients.
- IT and BPO teams coordinating with US, UK and Australian offices.
- Students attending online classes or interviews abroad.
- Families calling relatives in other countries.
- Travellers planning flights, connections and jet-lag recovery.
- Fans following live sports, product launches and streams.
- Traders tracking market opening hours around the world.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using a fixed difference all year — daylight saving changes it twice a year.
- Trusting abbreviations — IST, CST and BST each mean more than one zone.
- Forgetting the date change — a late-evening time in India can be the next day in Australia or Japan.
- Ignoring half-hour offsets — India, Sri Lanka, Iran and parts of Australia use them.
Tips and Troubleshooting
- A warning about a skipped time — that hour did not exist on that date in the source zone; pick another time.
- “Already shown” — the zone is already on the list or is the source zone.
- Your city is missing — choose the main city in the same zone, such as Kolkata for all of India.
- Odd results on an old device — update your browser, which updates its time-zone data.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the time difference between India and the USA?
India (IST, UTC+05:30) is 9 hours 30 minutes ahead of New York during US daylight saving time (EDT, UTC−04:00) and 10 hours 30 minutes ahead in winter (EST, UTC−05:00). California is 12h 30m ahead in summer and 13h 30m in winter.
What is the time difference between India and the UK?
IST is 4 hours 30 minutes ahead of the UK during British Summer Time (late March to late October) and 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of GMT in winter.
Does India have daylight saving time?
No. India uses IST (UTC+05:30) all year round, so the gap to countries that use daylight saving changes twice a year.
When do clocks change in the US and Europe?
In the US, daylight saving time runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. In the UK and EU, summer time runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. During the weeks in between, the US–Europe gap is one hour smaller than usual.
What is UTC and how is it different from GMT?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard that all time zones are defined against. GMT is the time zone used in the UK in winter; for everyday purposes it equals UTC+00:00.
Why are some time zones offset by 30 or 45 minutes?
Some countries chose offsets that better match their geography or politics — India uses +05:30, Nepal +05:45, parts of Australia +09:30 and Newfoundland −03:30 (standard time).
What happens if I choose a time that is skipped by daylight saving?
When clocks spring forward, one hour does not exist that day. The converter shows a warning and uses the nearest valid time.
How do I find a good meeting time across countries?
Add all participants' cities and look at the meeting planner. Green cells are 9 am–6 pm local time. Choose a row with green, or at least amber, for everyone.
Why do abbreviations like IST look confusing?
Abbreviations are ambiguous — IST can mean India, Israel or Irish Standard Time. The converter therefore also shows the city and the exact UTC offset for each zone.
Is the converter accurate?
It uses your browser's built-in Intl time-zone database (based on the IANA tz database), which is updated with browser updates. Governments occasionally change rules at short notice, so keep your browser up to date.
Can I share a converted time?
Yes. The page link updates with the date, time and zones, so you can send it to colleagues, or use Copy Times to paste all the times into a message.
Is the Time Zone Converter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser.
