Quick Answer
A love calculator is a fun game: type two names and it turns their letters into a score between 0 and 100%. This one always gives the same score for the same two names, in either order, and also plays the classic FLAMES game — strike out common letters, count what is left and eliminate F-L-A-M-E-S in turn. The result is pure entertainment and says nothing real about a relationship. Names are processed on your device and never stored.
What is a Love Calculator?
A love calculator (लव कैलकुलेटर) is a light-hearted game: you type two names and it gives a "love percentage" between 0 and 100. It has been a favourite at school, in college canteens and at parties for decades — first on paper, then on early websites and now on phones. Everyone knows it is not serious, and that is exactly the point: it is a quick way to laugh with friends, tease a little and break the ice.
Our free love calculator does two things. It calculates a love score from the letters of both names, and it plays the classic FLAMES game. It is honest about being a game, it always gives the same result for the same names, and the names you type never leave your device.
Key Features
- Love percentage from 0 to 100%.
- Playful verdicts for each score range.
- FLAMES result — Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies or Siblings.
- Consistent: the same pair of names always gets the same score.
- Order-free: "A + B" equals "B + A".
- Private: nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
How to Use It
- Type your name in the first box.
- Type their name in the second box.
- Press Calculate love (or hit Enter).
- Read the love score, the verdict and the FLAMES result.
- Press Share result to copy a fun message for your friends.
How the Love Score is Made
We believe in being transparent, even for a game. Here is exactly what happens:
- Both names are cleaned up — spaces, dots, numbers and symbols are removed, and letters are made lower case.
- The two cleaned names are put in alphabetical order, so the order you type them in does not matter.
- They are joined and passed through a well-known hashing formula (FNV-1a) that turns any text into a large number.
- That number is reduced to a value from 0 to 100 — your love score.
Because the formula is deterministic, there is no randomness: you cannot keep pressing the button until you get 100%. A tiny change, like adding a surname or a different spelling, gives a completely different score — another sign that it measures letters, not feelings.
How to Play FLAMES
FLAMES is the pen-and-paper classic many of us played in the back of a notebook. The calculator plays it for you, but here is how it works by hand:
- Write both names, for example RAHUL and PRIYA.
- Cross out letters that appear in both names, one pair at a time: R and A are common. RAHUL becomes H-U-L; PRIYA becomes P-I-Y.
- Count the letters left: 3 + 3 = 6.
- Write F L A M E S. Count 6 letters round the word and strike out the letter you land on (S).
- Continue counting from the next letter, again 6 at a time, striking one letter each round, until only one is left.
For RAHUL and PRIYA the letters fall away in the order S, F, A, L, E — leaving M for Marriage. The letters stand for:
| Letter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| F | Friends 🤝 |
| L | Love ❤️ |
| A | Affection 🤗 |
| M | Marriage 💍 |
| E | Enemies 😤 |
| S | Siblings 👫 |
Different schools play slightly different versions — some count from the struck letter, some read the final count differently — so do not be surprised if a friend's paper version gives another answer. That is half the fun.
What the Verdicts Mean
| Score | Verdict |
|---|---|
| 90–100% | Made for each other! 💞 |
| 75–89% | A great match 💖 |
| 50–74% | Good chemistry 💕 |
| 25–49% | Needs some work 🙂 |
| 0–24% | Better as friends 😄 |
These labels are jokes. A low score does not mean anything is wrong, and a high score does not guarantee anything either.
What Actually Makes Relationships Work
Since we are talking about love, here is the non-game version. Relationship researchers and counsellors consistently point to a handful of things that matter far more than names or star signs:
- Respect — valuing each other's opinions, boundaries and choices.
- Trust and honesty.
- Good communication — listening as much as talking, and handling disagreements calmly.
- Shared values and goals, even when interests differ.
- Kindness in small, everyday ways.
- Space to be yourselves.
Healthy relationships never involve pressure, control or fear. If something feels wrong, talk to someone you trust.
Fun Ways to Use It
- Party game: pair up friends' names and read the verdicts aloud.
- Couples: test your names, then nicknames, then full names — compare the results and laugh.
- Movie and book characters: see whether your favourite on-screen couple "passes".
- Friendship test: try it with your best friend and check the FLAMES result.
- Spelling challenge: try different spellings of the same name — Pooja and Puja, Mohammad and Muhammad — and watch the score change completely.
Keep it kind: don't use results to embarrass anyone, and always ask before putting someone's name in a game they might not enjoy.
A Short History of Love Tests
People have always enjoyed little rituals to "predict" romance — pulling petals off a flower ("loves me, loves me not"), counting letters in names, or reading tea leaves. FLAMES spread through schools long before smartphones; children would fill the back pages of notebooks with crossed-out letters. Early websites in the late 1990s turned the idea into the first online love calculators, and they have stayed popular ever since because they are quick, harmless and great conversation starters.
A Fun Maths Lesson in Disguise
For teachers and curious students, the love calculator is a neat way to explain a few computer-science ideas. A hash function takes any text and produces a fixed-size number; the same input always gives the same output, but a tiny change in the input gives a very different number. That is why adding one letter can move your score from 20% to 90%. FLAMES, meanwhile, is a version of a famous counting-out puzzle known as the Josephus problem, where people standing in a circle are eliminated every n-th place. Both show how a simple rule can produce results that feel surprising.
Make It a Party Game
Write a few names on slips of paper, let people draw pairs and predict the score before revealing it. Closest guess wins. Or run a FLAMES round on paper first and see whether everyone's hand-calculated answer matches the calculator — different counting habits often lead to lively debates.
Your Privacy
Some online love calculators collect names or ask for social logins. This one does neither. The calculation runs in JavaScript inside your browser; the names are never sent to a server, never stored and disappear when you close or refresh the page. There is nothing to sign up for.
Why Do Different Love Calculators Give Different Scores?
Every website uses its own formula — some count matching letters, some add up letter positions, some use random numbers, and some pick a number based on the date. None of them is "right", because there is nothing real to measure. Ours is designed to be fair and consistent: same names, same score, in any order, every time.
Names in Hindi and Other Scripts
The calculator accepts English letters and Devanagari (Hindi) letters. Because the score comes from the actual characters, "Priya" typed in English and "प्रिया" typed in Hindi produce different results. Choose one script for both names to keep the game fair.
A Gentle Reminder
Games like this are meant to make people smile. Please don't make real decisions — about a friendship, a crush or a marriage — based on a number from a formula. And if a friend seems upset by a result, remind them it is just letters and maths. The best compatibility test is honest conversation.
Why Use This Love Calculator?
It is quick, fun, consistent and completely private — a clean little game with the classic FLAMES built in and no tricks. Enjoy it with friends, share a laugh and remember: the only real love calculator is time spent together. Looking for more quick games? Try our Spin the Wheel or Coin Flip & Dice.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the love calculator work?
It cleans up both names (keeping only letters), puts them in alphabetical order and runs them through a hashing formula that turns any text into a number. That number becomes a score from 0 to 100%. It is a game, not a measurement of anything.
Is the love calculator real or accurate?
No. No name-based calculator can measure love or compatibility. Treat it like a fun party game; real relationships depend on respect, trust, communication and shared values.
Why do I get the same score every time?
The formula is deterministic — the same input always produces the same output — so you can't keep pressing until you get a high number. That also makes it fair to compare with friends.
Does the order of names matter?
No. The names are sorted before calculating, so 'A + B' and 'B + A' give the same score.
What is FLAMES?
A classic school game. Write both names, cross out the letters they share, count the remaining letters, and use that number to eliminate letters from F-L-A-M-E-S in a circle until one is left: Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies or Siblings.
Should I use full names or first names?
Either — but use the same style for both to compare fairly. Spaces, dots and numbers are ignored.
Does it work with Hindi names?
Yes, Devanagari letters are accepted as well as English letters. The same name typed in English and in Hindi will give different results, because the letters are different.
Are the names saved or shared?
No. Everything happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server or stored after you close the page.
Why did I get a low score?
Because the formula turned those letters into a low number — nothing more. Don't take it to heart!
Can I use it for friends or celebrities?
Sure, it's just for fun. Please be kind and don't use results to tease or embarrass anyone.
What do the verdicts mean?
They are playful labels for score ranges, from 'Better as friends' to 'Made for each other'. They are meant to make you smile, not to give advice.
Is the love calculator free?
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up or login.
