Quick Answer
Type names or options in the box, one per line, then click SPIN (or press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter). The wheel spins with ticking sounds and stops on a winner, which appears below and in the history. Tick “Remove the winner” for draws without repeats, pick a colour theme and spin time, and use “Copy share link” to send the same wheel to others. Every entry has exactly the same chance.
What is Spin the Wheel?
Spin the Wheel (स्पिन द व्हील) is a digital version of the prize wheel you see at fairs and game shows. You type a list of names or choices, the tool turns them into colourful slices on a wheel, and one click sends it spinning until a pointer lands on the winner. It is perfect when a decision should feel fair and fun at the same time: picking a student to answer, choosing a giveaway winner on a live stream, deciding what to eat for dinner, assigning chores, or selecting the next game, topic or prize.
This free wheel supports up to 100 entries, five colour themes, adjustable spin time, ticking sounds, a winner history, automatic winner removal and a share link that lets others open exactly the same wheel. Most importantly, it is genuinely fair: the winner is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random generator before the animation starts, so every entry has exactly the same chance.
Key Features
- 2 to 100 entries, typed or pasted one per line.
- Equal odds for every entry, drawn with a secure random generator.
- Realistic spin with smooth slow-down and tick sounds.
- Remove the winner automatically for multi-prize draws.
- Five themes — Bright, Pastel, Tiranga, Ocean and Dark.
- Spin time of 3, 5, 8 or 12 seconds.
- Shuffle, sort and presets (Yes/No, 1–10).
- Share link and fullscreen for classrooms and live streams.
How to Use It — Step by Step
- Enter your list in the Entries box, one name or option per line. The count updates as you type.
- Pick a colour theme and spin time.
- Choose options — sound on or off, and whether to remove the winner after each spin.
- Spin by clicking the SPIN button in the centre, clicking the wheel, or pressing Ctrl/⌘ + Enter.
- Read the result below the wheel; every winner is added to the history.
- Share the wheel with “Copy share link” or go fullscreen for an audience.
How the Wheel Stays Fair
Some online wheels simply spin at a random speed and see where they stop, which can be affected by rounding, frame rates or how the physics is coded. This wheel works the other way round:
- When you press Spin, a winner is drawn using
crypto.getRandomValueswith an unbiased method, so each of N entries has exactly a 1 in N chance. - A random landing point inside that winner's slice is chosen (away from the edges, so it is never ambiguous).
- The wheel is animated for several full turns and eased to a stop exactly on that point.
Because the result is fixed before the animation begins, nothing about when you click, how long the spin takes or how fast your device is can change the outcome. Position in the list does not matter either — the slice at the top at the start has no advantage.
Running a Giveaway on a Live Stream
- Prepare entries — paste usernames from comments (remove duplicates first; our Remove Duplicate Lines tool helps).
- Show the list to viewers and announce the number of prizes.
- Tick “Remove the winner” so nobody wins twice.
- Go fullscreen, turn on sound and spin once per prize.
- Read out each winner and keep the recording as proof.
With more than 100 entrants, use our Random Name Picker, which handles lists of any size with the same fair method.
Classroom Ideas
- Who answers next? Load the class list and remove each student after their turn.
- Topic or question wheel — revision topics, vocabulary words or quiz categories.
- Reward wheel — small privileges like choosing the class song or extra break time.
- Group roles — leader, writer, presenter, timekeeper.
- Language games — spin for a letter, then name an animal, city and food starting with it.
Everyday Uses
| Situation | Example entries |
|---|---|
| What's for dinner? | Pizza, Biryani, Dosa, Pav Bhaji, Momos |
| Weekend plan | Movie, Park, Board games, Visit family, Rest |
| Chores | Dishes, Laundry, Sweeping, Grocery run |
| Office stand-up order | Team members' names |
| Quick decision | Yes, No (or add Maybe) |
| Random number | 1 to 10 preset |
Worked Example: Picking a Class Quiz Order
A teacher has eight teams for a Friday quiz and wants a fair order of play. She types the team names — Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri, Narmada, Krishna, Brahmaputra and Mahanadi — one per line, ticks “Remove the winner after each spin”, chooses the Tiranga theme and puts the wheel in fullscreen on the classroom projector. The first spin lands on Kaveri, which goes first and disappears from the wheel; seven slices remain. Seven more spins produce the complete order, recorded in the Winners list in sequence. Because every spin was a fresh fair draw among the teams still waiting, every possible order was equally likely, and the students could see it happen. Afterwards she clicks “Copy share link” and posts it in the class group so the same wheel can be reused next week.
Wheel, Name Picker or Number Generator?
All three tools on Prompt Minds use the same fair randomness — choose by situation. Spin the Wheel is best when people are watching and the suspense is part of the fun: classrooms, parties and live streams with up to 100 entries. The Random Name Picker is faster for long lists, picking several winners at once or making teams. The Random Number Generator suits numbered tickets, raffle stubs or sampling rows from a spreadsheet. For two options, a coin flip is the quickest of all.
Why a Wheel Feels Fair
People accept decisions more easily when they can see how they were made. A spinning wheel makes chance visible: everyone sees all the options, watches the same spin and sees where it stops. That shared moment turns a potential argument (“Why do I always get the dishes?”) into a game. In a classroom, being picked by the wheel is clearly nobody's personal choice, which takes the sting out of being called on; and a giveaway audience that watched the draw has far less reason to doubt it than one that only hears an announcement afterwards.
Sharing Your Wheel
“Copy share link” creates a web address with your entries encoded after the # sign. The part after # is never sent to a web server — it stays in the browser — so your list is not stored by us. Send the link on WhatsApp, email or a class group, and everyone who opens it sees the same entries ready to spin. Very long lists may not fit in a link; in that case share the list as text instead.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Duplicate lines — an entry typed twice gets two slices and twice the chance.
- Forgetting to remove winners — someone may win two prizes.
- Re-spinning for a “better” result — agree that the first spin counts.
- Very long names — they are shortened on the wheel; use first names or short labels.
Troubleshooting
- “Add at least two entries” — a wheel needs two or more lines.
- No ticking sound — tick “Sound”, unmute the device and click the page once.
- Fullscreen not available — some in-app browsers block it; open the page in Chrome, Safari or Edge.
Quick Glossary
- Slice / segment: one entry's section of the wheel.
- Pointer: the red marker at the top that shows the winner.
- Ease-out: an animation that starts fast and slows down smoothly.
- URL fragment: the part of a link after #, kept in the browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the spin the wheel tool really random?
Yes. When you press Spin, the winner is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, giving every entry exactly the same chance. The animation is then steered to stop on that entry, so the spin speed, timing or where you click cannot affect the result.
How many entries can I add?
From 2 up to 100, one per line. With many entries, long names are shortened on the wheel (with “…”) but the full name is shown as the result.
How do I remove the winner after each spin?
Tick “Remove the winner after each spin”. After the result is shown, that name is taken off the list, so the next spin only includes the remaining entries — ideal for giveaways with several prizes or picking presentation order.
Can I give one entry a bigger chance?
Each line is one equal slice. To give an option double the chance, add it twice — it will then occupy two slices. For a fair draw, keep every entry once.
How do I share my wheel?
Click “Copy share link”. The entries are stored in the part of the link after the # symbol, which browsers never send to a server. Anyone who opens the link sees the same entries and can spin.
Can I use it for a giveaway or live stream?
Yes. Use fullscreen, turn on sound, show the full list of entries before spinning and keep “Remove the winner” on for multiple prizes. Record the stream or screen so viewers can see the draw was fair.
Can I make a yes or no wheel?
Yes. Tap the “Yes / No” preset for a two-slice wheel, or add “Maybe” for three choices.
Can I change the colours?
Choose from Bright, Pastel, Tiranga (saffron, white, green and navy), Ocean and Dark themes. Text colour switches automatically for readability on light and dark slices.
Why is there no sound?
Browsers allow sound only after you interact with the page, and some phones mute web audio in silent mode. Make sure “Sound” is ticked and your device is not muted.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Tap SPIN or the wheel itself. The wheel resizes to fit your screen.
Are my entries saved?
Entries stay while the page is open and in any share link you create. They are not uploaded or stored on a server.
Is Spin the Wheel free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no limit on spins.
